• Wilderness

In the stillness, in the quiet
In the darkness of the night
    When my soul is aching
And it seems I’ve lost my sight
I try hard but do not hear you
Not a whisper not a sound
My heart is heavy and feels like breaking
As I walk this barren ground
I search for water but do not find it
I look for comfort but in vain
For I must learn by faith you’re with me
Even in the midst of pain
If I could see you or could feel you
If I could touch your nail scarred hands
But you said you're always with me
I must be still and take my stand
Against the wiles of the devil and his evil ploy
You have a plan and purpose his efforts can’t destroy
Even though a storm is raging, And there’s trouble all around
You’re a God who never changes who will make your grace abound
In the middle of the desert You will make a river flow
Make a pool out of the wilderness so that people will see and know
When Your salvation comes that it is by your hand
You’re the God who formed the mountains
And stretches out the heavens like a tent
A God who won’t forsake us even when our strength is spent
For it is in our weakness that Your power is displayed
So I will wait upon you, I will not fear or be dismayed
For you are with me and will help me
Give me strength and make a way
You are my rock and my salvation my portion and my rest
And to the one who trusts You always give the best
As I walk on through the fire You have said I won’t be burned
For it is through the testing into gold my faith is turned
That it would be found genuine, purified and refined
For a greater measure of Your glory is what you have in mind
Not for evil or to harm us, but to bring the highest good
as I look upon the ashes of where a mountain stood.
